1 - ADD RECORDS This function allows for the addtion of new information
to the database. The fields are error checked only on
length so care must be used to see that information is
formated alike (I.E. 704-393-0489 ). When you finish a
session of adding records the Primary Index is auto -
maticaly updated. A prompt will advise you of the status
of the Indexing operation and return you to the Menu
when complete. Keep in mind thet this is the only index
that is updated automatically. To use the others ( For
reports and Finding ) you must first use the "Sort" (5)
selection from the main Menu if the file has been
changed since the last sort.
To EXIT the ADD function enter a BLANK 1st FIELD, to
ABORT adding after starting answer no to "Are entries
OK ?" and CHANGE FIELD #1 TO BLANK.

2 - SEE RECORDS This function allows for VIEWING RECORDS in the file
after LOCATING BY RECORD NUMBER. The current range
shows the acceptable entries (Record Numbers in the
CURRENT FILE)
To EXIT this function PRESS ENTER when asked for a
Record number or ENTER the NUMBER 0.
No other operations are available from here. To CHANGE
or DELETE see HELP 03, FIND RECORD

3 - FIND RECORD This function allows for VIEWING,DELETING, or CHANGING
Records in the Database. You are first asked for the
INDEX to use for the find. Select 1 - "Number of fields"
in your file. The find is based on the index choosen
and the INDEX MUST BE CURRENT! A "No-Find" will result
from using a NON-CURRENT INDEX. Once the record is found
ENTER.. [A] - ADVANCE ONE RECORD IN THE INDEX
[B] - BACKUP ONE RECORD IN THE INDEX
[C] - CHANGE A FIELD IN THE CURRENT RECORD
[D] - DELETE THE CURRENT RECORD
[E] - EXIT TO THE MAIN MENU
[R] - RECALL THE CURRENT RECORD (UN-DELETE)
[W] - WRITE CURRENT RECORD TO WS/MM FILE
[F8]- MACRO - Recall record and Backup
[F9] MACRO - Delete record and Advance

4 - LIST RECORD - MACRO'S From Main menu (See Help 00) [F4] [F5] [F6]
* - Press "4" from menu, Select sorted [1] or by record no. [2]
If "2" view records and return to menu
* - Select Y/N for "Do you want Hardcopy (1,2,3,4,Y/N) ? (**)
If "Y" enter Title for your report
* - Select Index to Sort report on (1 thru No of fields)
* - Select to list all or part of the records (List all,Y/N ?)
If "N" Enter field to select on (I.E."Compare to" )

5 - SORT RECORD This function allows for the SORTING or INDEXING of the
records in the database. You may sort in ASCENDING or
DESCENDING order. The PRIMARY INDEX (On field #1) is
updated after each ADDTION or DELETION to the database,
the others you may choose to use must be updated via
this selection.
The INDEX FILES CREATED are stored to disk with a number
following the filename equalto the index and the suffix
".NDX". You may have as many index files as you have
fields in the database. The binary FIND FUNCTION will
operate equally well on ascending or descending indexes.
You may go directly to the report function after a sort
by answering "Y" to prompt "PRINT LIST NOW Y/N ?"

6 - PACK RECORD This function WILL REMOVE RECORDS from the file with no
chance for recall. You will be advised of this before
proceding and MUST RESPOND "Y" TO PROCEED.
A STATUS REPORT will advise you of the records removed
and the TOTAL PACKED.
The PRIMARY INDEX IS UPDATED WHEN THE PACK FUNCTION IS
COMPLETE. Others in use MUST BE RESORTED WITH THE SORT
COMMAND TO KEEP THEM CURRENT.
NOTE: RECORDS REMOVED WILL BE THOSE DELETED WITH THE
"D" SELECTION IN THE FIND FUNCTION.

7 - IMPORT FILE Use this selection to import files from other programs,
in ASCII format . The file to APPEND TO must be pre-
defined BEFORE entering IMPORT. It must be defined in
EXACTLY THE SAME FORMAT as the file appending from.
FIELD NAMES MAY DIFFER, but FIELD POSITION IN THE RECORD
must be the same.
This can be used in conjunction with the "4" selection
from the list function to create other files from exist
-ing records, with all or some of the fields or with
new fields added with the Sn function, comprised of all
or some of the records. See documentation for addtional
information.
Import does NOT update or create any Indexes, use the
Sort (5) as required after import.

8 - CHANGE FILE Use this selection to change to another database. If
the FILE ALREADY EXISTS the fields defined will be
listed for your information. If it is a NEW FILE you
will be asked to DEFINE THE FIELD NAMES AND THE FIELD
LENGTH. The Maximum number of fields is 12 and the MAX
length is 50. ERROR MESSAGES will result if these values
are exceeded.
AFTER A NEW FILE IS DEFINED, it is stored to disk with
a ".CFG" EXTENSION and need not be defined again. On
selection at a future time the existing configuration
will be displayed as above.
TO EXIT ABCFILE press [RETURN] when asked for a filename
(List Defined files with a "?" when prompted for name)
