  27.    1 - ADD RECORDS    This function allows for the addtion of new information
  28.                       to the database. The fields are error checked only on
  29.                       length so care must be used to see that information is 
  30.                       formated alike (I.E. 704-393-0489 ). When you finish a
  31.                       session of adding records the Primary Index is auto -
  32.                       maticaly updated. A prompt will advise you of the status
  33.                       of the Indexing operation and return you to the Menu
  34.                       when complete. Keep in mind thet this is the only index
  35.                       that is updated automatically. To use the others ( For 
  36.                       reports and Finding ) you must first use the "Sort" (5) 
  37.                       selection from the main Menu if the file has been
  38.                       changed since the last sort.                 
  39.                                                                              
  40.                       To EXIT the ADD function enter a BLANK 1st FIELD, to
  41.                       ABORT adding after starting answer no to "Are entries
  42.                       OK ?" and CHANGE FIELD #1 TO BLANK.

  73.    3 - FIND RECORD    This function allows for VIEWING,DELETING, or CHANGING 
  74.                       Records in the Database. You are first asked for the 
  75.                       INDEX to use for the find. Select 1 - "Number of fields" 
  76.                       in your file. The find is based on the index choosen  
  77.                       and the INDEX MUST BE CURRENT! A "No-Find" will result
  78.                       from using a NON-CURRENT INDEX. Once the record is found

  80.                       ENTER..    [A] - ADVANCE ONE RECORD IN THE INDEX    
  81.                                  [B] - BACKUP  ONE RECORD IN THE INDEX

  119.    5 - SORT RECORD    This function allows for the SORTING or INDEXING of the
  120.                       records in the database. You may sort in ASCENDING or
  121.                       DESCENDING order. The PRIMARY INDEX (On field #1) is   
  122.                       updated after each ADDTION or DELETION to the database,
  123.                       the others you may choose to use must be updated via 
  124.                       this selection.                                         
  125.                                                                           
  126.                       The INDEX FILES CREATED are stored to disk with a number
  127.                       following the filename equalto the index and the suffix
  128.                       ".NDX". You may have as many index files as you have    
  129.                       fields in the database. The binary FIND FUNCTION will
  130.                       operate equally well on ascending or descending indexes.
  131.                                                                              
  132.                       You may go directly to the report function after a sort
  133.                       by answering "Y" to prompt "PRINT LIST NOW Y/N ?"

  142.    6 - PACK RECORD    This function WILL REMOVE RECORDS from the file with no
  143.                       chance for recall. You will be advised of this before
  144.                       proceding and MUST RESPOND "Y" TO PROCEED.             
  145.                                                                              
  146.                       A STATUS REPORT will advise you of the records removed
  147.                       and the TOTAL PACKED.                                   
  148.                                                                            
  149.                       The PRIMARY INDEX IS UPDATED WHEN THE PACK FUNCTION IS 
  150.                       COMPLETE. Others in use MUST BE RESORTED WITH THE SORT 
  151.                       COMMAND TO KEEP THEM CURRENT.

  153.                       NOTE: RECORDS REMOVED WILL BE THOSE DELETED WITH THE
  154.                             "D" SELECTION IN THE FIND FUNCTION.

  165.    7 - IMPORT FILE    Use this selection to import files from other programs,
  166.                       in ASCII format . The file to APPEND TO must be pre- 
  167.                       defined BEFORE entering IMPORT. It must be defined in  
  168.                       EXACTLY THE SAME FORMAT as the file appending from.   
  169.                       FIELD NAMES MAY DIFFER, but FIELD POSITION IN THE RECORD
  170.                       must be the same.                     
  171.                                                                           
  172.                       This can be used in conjunction with the "4" selection 
  173.                       from the list function to create other files from exist
  174.                       -ing records, with all or some of the fields or with    
  175.                       new fields added with the Sn function, comprised of all
  176.                       or some of the records. See documentation for addtional
  177.                       information.                                           
  178.                             
  179.                       Import does NOT update or create any Indexes, use the
  180.                       Sort (5) as required after import.

  188.    8 - CHANGE FILE    Use this selection to change to another database. If    
  189.                       the FILE ALREADY EXISTS the fields defined will be    
  190.                       listed for your information. If it is a NEW FILE you   
  191.                       will be asked to DEFINE THE FIELD NAMES AND THE FIELD 
  192.                       LENGTH. The Maximum number of fields is 12 and the MAX
  193.                       length is 50. ERROR MESSAGES will result if these values
  194.                       are exceeded.                                       
  195.                                                                              
  196.                       AFTER A NEW FILE IS DEFINED, it is stored to disk with 
  197.                       a ".CFG" EXTENSION and need not be defined again. On    
  198.                       selection at a future time the existing configuration
  199.                       will be displayed as above.                  
  200.                                                                              
  201.                       TO EXIT ABCFILE press [RETURN] when asked for a filename
  202.  
  203.                       (List Defined files with a "?" when prompted for name)
